Roatan Honduras

10 days in Texas then home.

I spent the next 10 days in Texas with David and his family, they showed me a wonderful time. We travelled to Houston and visited the NASA Space centre and Galveston then headed back to Dallas. All too soon it was time to fly home to Perth and back to work. The trip home was uneventful and I arrived home with plenty to talk about. I was already planning my next trip although I didnt know where to yet. As It turned out I was invited to Go to La Paz with The Group we met and were adopted by. They are a wonderful bunch of people to spend time with.

Dallas to Roatan

This place is cool.

We left Dallas on a short hop to Houston then boarded the plane to Roatan. While waiting to board the plane we met a group from Springfield Missouri that were also going to Roatan and as it turned out the same place we were. We were met at the airport by the resort bus and taken to a dock for a short boat ride to the resort. On arival we were all given a quick but brief introduction to the resort and our room keys. Dinner was next on the agenda followed by another introduction to the dive masters and a reef brief. Then off to the bar we went for a couple of drinks then bed.

Early the next morning we had breakfast then an orientation dive to sort out our bouyancy and any other issues with gear. Then lunch before an afternoon dive. The routine for the next week was to be two dives in the morning then lunch followed by two dives in the afternoon and a night dive after dinner if we wanted. the places we dived were as follows.
40ft Point, CoCo View wall, Johns spot, Newmans Wall, Gold Chain reef, Connies Dream, Shark Bait Reef, Menagerie, Mystery Reef, Calvins Crack, Anka's Place, Mary's Place, Valley of the Kings, And Iron Shore.
The last day was to be spent shopping and touring before the flight home.

David and I got on the wrong boat on the first morning and there was the group we met in Houston. Luckily for us they they were a friendly bunch and invited us to spend the rest of the trip diving with them. Well all too soon the last day rolled around we shopped we toured and we flew home. I have kept in touch with the people we met and have been over to visit and accompany them on the trip to La Paz.

Surprise trip to where?

Roatan Honduras

In May 2003 I recieved a phone call from a friend David in the US asking if I was interested in a dive trip to Roatan Honduras in September. Of course I was once I found out where it was. So the dates were organised and flights were booked. I was to fly to Sydney and stay overnight before flying on to LA the following afternoon. Then change planes and fly on to Dallas where David was going to meet me. Then I was to stay with David and his family for a few days before we flew to Roatan. We would spend a week diving then return to Dallas for a week. I would then fly back home to Perth Australia.
When the date finally came around I flew out of Perth for Sydney and arrived late at night and went to my hotel for a good nights sleep. I woke early and had breakfast and headed off to Manly to catch up with a friend for a few hours before my flight. Ted dropped me back at the hotel where I checked out and got the shuttle to the airport and checked my bags in and boarded my flight to LA.
16 uneventful hours later I landed in LA, I had seen smog before but this was something else it could only be described as airborne mud.
LAX was a disaster area as they were in the middle of renovations but the transfer went ok and I arrived in Dallas without a hitch.
David was there to meet me and we were on our way in no time at all.

David had booked me into a local motel so I could get some sleep and get over the time difference in peace ( smart guy David ). I checked in and had a shower and changed then went to dinner with David and his wife Cynthia and the kids. I have known David and Cynthia for years but this was the first time I had met the kids. After dinner I returned to the moteland went to bed. David and I spent the next couple of days sorting out our gear for the trip.
